INTRODUCTION TO MEDITATION

“THE TRUE PURPOSE OF MEDITATION ISN’T TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL

BUT TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE ALL . . .

TO FIND THE SOURCE OF ALL PEACE, JOY, LOVE, CREATIVITY, AND BLISS.”

~ DEEPAK CHOPRA

WHAT IS MEDITATION?

Meditation is a tool for rediscovering the body’s own inner intelligence. Practiced for thousands of years, it is not about forcing the mind to be quiet; it is about finding the silence that is already within and then allowing it to become a part of daily life. Meditation is a journey to the center of your very being; a journey to emotional freedom; and a journey to the reawakening of your unconditioned self -- your InnerLight.

Silence is the birthplace of healing, happiness, creativity, and infinite possibilities. From this field of pure potentiality you get bursts of inspiration, your most intuitive thoughts, and your deepest sense of connection to the Universe. Practicing meditation on a daily basis allows you to weave silence and stillness into your mind and body to create a life of greater compassion, self-awareness, and self-fulfillment..

"Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything. Maybe it's about un-becoming everything that isn't you, so you can become who you were meant to be in the first place."

~Paul Coehlo

WHY MEDITATE?

Most people in the west come to meditation in order to alleviate stress from a life that seems to have grown out of control and ultimately results in some form of chronic illness.

Consequently, doctors are increasingly citing stress as a major contributing factor to most disease. Our fight-or-flight response developed thousands of years ago to protect us at times of great danger, such as in an encounter with a saber-tooth tiger. These events were not daily occurrences, allowing the body-mind to return to a state of equilibrium before another stressful incident ensued.

However, today we encounter stressful events 12-15 times a day! Each time, the fight-or-flight response automatically kicks in, not knowing whether the cause was charred toast or an attack on your life. Stressful events occur so frequently throughout the day that the body never returns to its natural state of balance. Over time the constant physiological responses to these daily stressors accumulate and may develop into heart disease, strokes, cancer, diabetes, anxiety, and depression.

Meditation is an antidote to the stress that accumulates during your daily life. While you meditate your body and mind settle into a state of restful awareness; a return to your natural state of perfection. Throughout the other 23 hours of the day, you bring these healing qualities back into your life. This physiological rejuvenation happens to be the response that counters the body’s reactions to stressful situations. As you meditate consistently over time, the benefits of your regular practice will lessen physical, emotional, and spiritual barriers to wellbeing, fostering healing in your body-mind from the inside out.

DEEPEN YOUR PRACTICE WITH PRIMORDIAL SOUND MEDITATION

“Meditation is a progressive quieting of the mind until you get to the source of the mind which is pure consciousness. You are not your mind or your thoughts. You are the consciousness in which the thoughts come and go.”

~ Deepak Chopra, MD

Would you like a simple technique that allows your busy mind to gradually subside into stillness?

For most of us the thoughts sabotage our attempts to quiet our mind – our attempts to meditate. I had given up on the idea that I could meditate all together. At a Chopra Center Seduction of Spirit event, I was required to learn Primordial Sound Meditation as part of the program. Much to my surprise, through the instruction given in the program and the personal uniqueness of my primordial sound mantra, I found myself actually meditating for 30 minutes. [Read my blog]

Primordial Sound Meditation is a technique originating in the wisdom teachings of ancient India, revived by Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon at the Chopra Center for Wellbeing in the early 1990’s. In this tradition, primordial sounds – the basic, most essential sounds of nature – are used to disconnect us from the activity of life. These individually selected sounds, known as mantras, are based on the vibration the universe made at the time and place of your birth; it is the vibration of your soul.

Mantra is a Sanskrit word that translates as “tool” or “instrument.” A mantra is a tool to take us inward when we meditate. It is a sound – a vibration – with no meaning attached to it. Thoughts are also vibrations, but they have meaning. The meaning keeps your awareness at the level of your mind and intellect. Because it has no meaning, your Primordial Sound mantra allows you to go beyond the mind and intellect and experience the nature of your true self.

Your Primordial Sound mantra is an excellent tool for quieting the mind because it is the unique vibration of your soul; the sound of the universe as you birthed into the world. Every time you meditate using your mantra, you are connecting with your soul at a deep cellular level..

My Journey Within Package is the same Primordial Sound Meditation program taught at the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California. During the classes you have the experiences of meditation and you also receive the knowledge that supports your experiences. Dr. Chopra and Dr. Simon found this technique to be one of the most effective methods for their patients to learn meditation in our fast-paced Western society.

Would you like to have your own unique mantra?

Would you like to deepen your meditation practice?

Would you like to have someone mentor you through the challenges of making meditation a part of your day?
