Meditative Yoga Flow Classes

My therapeutic yoga classes are nurturing, and welcome each and everyone.

I promise to meet you where you are!

Each of us has our own unique expression of who we are; perhaps it comes through allowing our body to move into a yoga pose or in the way our body-mind expresses itself in our lives. With repeated yoga practice, many of my students say that they begin to feel from the inside how their body is responding to movement and to move in accordance with their inner guidance – beautiful self-awareness! Ultimately, the self-awareness developed through a yoga practice is a tool that we can utilize in expression of our self throughout all areas of our life.

Through a meditative flow of gentle poses, you will find inner expansion as you create union of your body, mind, and spirit. Variations of poses allow everyone, whether new to yoga or having practiced for many years, to find what they need in my classes.

Through breathing, movement and relaxation, we create and remember the union of our body, mind, and spirit. The highest goal of yoga is to then feel that union with everyone and everything around us.

Whether it’s a Somatic Yoga Therapy private session, a Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga Class, Chakra Yoga, or a Meditative Yoga Flow, I weave in information from ancient wisdom traditions. From the Vedic tradition I teach about Ayurveda, [link to Ayurveda page] the eight limbs of yoga, and our energy bodies. I also share Native American wisdom, my first introduction to ancient teachings. All of these truths that I share deeply resonate with my own body, mind, and spirit.

THE SEVEN SPIRITUAL LAWS OF YOGA

Join me for a beautiful exploration of consciousness in action

“The true purpose of yoga is to discover that aspect of your being that can never be lost. ”

~ David Simon, M.D.

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga invites spirituality back into your practice of yoga. An in-depth exploration of the laws of nature that are described in Dr. Deepak Chopra’s book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success teaches that success – not only in reference to material wealth – but in regards to happiness, health, good relationships, equanimity, abundance, and so much more – is available to anyone embracing a consciousness-based approach to life.

Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. David Simon developed a comprehensive series of yoga poses based on the principles or laws of nature. These teachings are now available to you through The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga classes.

In this series of classes, you weave in mantras, breathing techniques, and poses that energize the principles and create the union of body, mind, and spirit. You will learn techniques to bring the timeless wisdom of nature into your daily life, both on and off the mat. Through a daily practice, you will begin to infuse this sense of connection with everyone and everything around you.

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga classes are offered in succession, which can be adapted as a daily or weekly routine. Each practice allows for understanding of the principles at a deeper and deeper level and a more expansive awareness of the timeless wisdom as it becomes more integrated within your body-mind.

These classes are open to all levels of yoga practitioners and offer variations of poses so that everyone, no matter what your experience is, can benefit from these ageless and timeless teachings. The only criteria required to take this class is a willingness to openly receive the benefits!

If you are planning a yoga or meditation retreat, I would love to bring these beautiful teachings to it.

CHAKRA YOGA CLASSES

“The body is the vehicle; consciousness the driver;

Yoga is the path; the chakras are the map.”

~ Anodea Judith, PhD/E-RYT

The goal of Chakra Yoga is to connect to the sacred center within us by enlivening each of the seven major chakras. When our energy centers are unblocked and open, our life force flows freely through the central core. When the energy centers become blocked, illness and dis-ease may occur. Specific yoga poses, breathing techniques, mantras, and mudras (hand positions) can enhance the flow of our life force at each energy center. When the life force is circulating, healing occurs, and we open to our true nature; our InnerLight begins to awaken!

The seven major energy centers are located along the central channel from the base of the spine to the crown of our head and correspond to seven main nerve ganglia, which emanate from the spinal column. In these locations if all is functioning well, energy and information are exchanged.

This special series is offered in eight classes. Each class focuses on one chakra through guided exploration in ways to keep that particular center in balance. Techniques include movement (yoga poses and bioenergetics), sound vibration, breathing techniques, and affirmations to create a more fluid exchange of the energy and information in each chakra. The final class incorporates all seven chakras into the sequence, bringing it all together.

You will also learn to recognize the characteristics of a balanced chakra, traumas that may be associated with an imbalanced chakra, signs of excessive and deficient chakras, and healing practices for each one. Each class includes a Sun Salutation sequence that brings balance to the chakra of focus.

If you are planning a yoga or meditation retreat, I would love to bring these chakra teachings to it.

SOMATIC YOGA THERAPY

“Yoga is a process of breaking our identification

with our suffering.”

~ Bhagavad Gita

What do you think of when you hear the word “yoga?”

  • A series of different configurations of the body?

  • Sitting in lotus pose with your thumb and index finger connected, chanting OM?

In general, the western view of yoga is a series of poses that promotes fitness and relaxation. However, in the ancient wisdom teachings, yoga is much, much more! It is viewed as a therapeutic practice, and Asanas (the poses) are only one aspect of Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga. Through Somatic Yoga Therapy, you are offered many paths to healing the suffering of your mind, body, or spirit.

There are many reasons to engage in yoga therapy for healing, but the main goal is to reduce suffering (physical, emotional, psychological, or spiritual) using the tools and teachings of yoga. These tools include yoga poses, pranayama (breathing practices), mantras (spoken words or phrases that focus the mind), meditation, Integrative Restoration (iRest), guided visualization, and relaxation to reduce pain, to alleviate symptoms of dis-ease, to increase self-awareness, and ultimately to connect with the part of you that is infinite and unchanging and not separate from all that is.

A second goal is to find the root cause of the suffering by considering all aspects of your being – the mind, the body, and the spirit. In yogic traditions, the body, mind, and spirit are not viewed as separate parts of who we are. Instead, the sensations of the body and the emotions, beliefs, thoughts, memories and desires of the mind are interconnected. The spirit is the witness of all of these interactions playing out in our lives. Through yoga therapy, those parts of us that we perceived as separate become integrated, leading to true healing, happiness, and an overall sense of joy and wellbeing.

Transforming patterns of unwanted thoughts and behaviors is a third goal. Through yoga therapy, we develop awareness of habits and behaviors that no longer serve us. We learn to lovingly, gently, and compassionately shift our attitude and perspective about what is no longer true for us.

Physical, emotional, and psychological imbalances that lead to anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, chronic pain, digestive disorders, and trauma respond well to yoga therapy. Usually, these are symptoms of a disregulated nervous system. Somatic Yoga Therapy offers effective, mindfulness practices to help regulate the nervous system in order to support an increasing capacity for connection and aliveness.

In addition to the tools and techniques of Somatic Yoga Therapy, classes and private sessions are complemented with the holistic wisdom of Ayurveda, meditation, and energy healing.

Goals for my clients and my somatic yoga classes:

  1. Empowering you with tools you can use on a daily basis to manage your symptoms, reduce your suffering, and to help you feel more alive and connected.

  2. These tools will help you rebalance and reset your nervous system so the relaxation response becomes more dominant than the stress response.

  3. You learn practices and create the space that provides you with opportunities to connect with the quiet calm inner self – to awaken your InnerLight.

The principles of Somatic Yoga Therapy are incorporated into my group classes, but private sessions allow me to focus on your personal needs, teaching you specifically how to empower and transform your life and your relationship with suffering.

Design your own session with me ranging from 30 to 90 minutes based on your individual needs.

iREST YOGA NIDRA CLASSES

“In the end, we realize how simple life is when we accept this moment, just as it is, without pretending to be other than who we are. This is grace in action and the culmination of iRest.”

~Richard Miller, Ph.D

The process of Integrative Restoration induces deep relaxation throughout the entire body-mind and teaches time-tested tools to eliminate stress, engage healing, resolve trauma as well as to neutralize anxiety, fear, anger, depression, insomnia, and chronic pain. It teaches you how to enter a state of deep meditation. With regular practice, the qualities of joy, peacefulness, empathy, forgiveness, and loving kindness towards yourself and others evolve. Loosely translated Yoga Nidra means “the sleep of the yogi.”

Based on the ancient teachings of meditation, Integrative Restoration (iRest®) is an evidence-based, transformative practice that leads to psychological, physical, and spiritual healing and wellbeing. Regular practice can help to neutralize some of the more common unresolved concerns as well as earlier developmental traumas that are stored in your body and your mind.

The process of integrative restoration provides the space for you to recognize the innate peace of mind that is always present, regardless of whatever chaos or changes you may be experiencing in your life.

iRest is a non-dogmatic, non-religious practice consisting of 30-40 minute sessions in which you sit or lie down and are guided through sequences that involve:

  • Body sensitivity training

  • Breath and energy awareness

  • The experience of joy and wellbeing

  • Systematic desensitization to undesirable body sensations and stress, negative feelings and emotions, and limiting beliefs, images and memories

  • Freedom from the feeling of separation and suffering

People who regularly engage in iRest report:

  • Reduced symptoms of depression, fear, and anxiety

  • Improved sleep and decreased stress

  • Reduced chronic and acute pain

  • Greater ability to relax and enjoy life

  • Improved interpersonal relations

  • Increased inner peace and well-being

  • The ability to experience peace and equanimity amidst everyday life

As a Level 2 Integrative Restoration Teacher-in-Training, my classes are informed by Dr. Richard Miller, PhD. of the Integrative Restoration Institute. He has conducted forty years of observation, research, and hands-on development, which has culminated in this profoundly transformative practice of iRest Yoga Nidra.
