CHAKRA YOGA & JOURNALING

Chakras are energy vortexes, or junctions, where energy and information come together, connecting our physiology with our conscious awareness. We have seven major chakras that run along the spine from its base to the crown of the head. These seven chakras correspond to seven main nerve ganglia where energy and information are exchanged. These energy centers govern different parts and functions of our body. 

 

When energy and information are flowing easily and effortlessly throughout our body, we feel joyful, energetic, centered, integrated, and have an overall sense of wellbeing. When our energy centers become blocked or out of balance, the energy and information ceases to flow efficiently. We begin to experience unsettled, dissatisfied, depressed, anxious, or a variety of symptoms that can ultimately lead to dis-ease. 

 

Our bodies continuously talk to us, sending us subtle signals. When we don’t heed these subtle signs, the messages become more aggressive. By learning to notice our body’s whispers, we can take appropriate action to avoid a potentially catastrophic outcome. In his book The Wisdom of Healing, Dr. David Simon explains that there are six stages of disease. It is not until the fifth stage that diagnosable symptoms begin to manifest in the body. When you pay attention, you have the first four stages to correct an imbalance in order to prevent the disease. Our awareness is the chief means of identifying imbalances before they become physical symptoms.

My appendix had to rupture to get my attention! With knowledge of the information conveyed to us through our chakras, we not only become aware of potential physical problems, but we also learn how to address the related emotional issues – the root causes that may be stored in our body. In this process we gain a better understanding of ourselves and begin to heal all aspects of our body, mind and spirit.

 

Each class of Journey of Self-Awareness will address one of the seven major chakras. The final class will help you see the overall picture of your chakra energy body. Throughout this series of classes, you will learn information about each chakra. You will then explore each chakra through a sequence of yoga poses, breathing techniques, mantras, and relaxation. 

 

After releasing and balancing your energy through movement, breath work, and chanting, it will be the perfect time to reflect in your journal about the state of each of your chakras. You may receive messages your body wants to share with you. You will discover insights and find breakthroughs to enhance your self-understanding from journaling prompts or through your own processing. 

 

During this journey, you will develop the self-awareness to harmonize your body, mind, and spirit to empower you to become a better version of yourself. You will be able to notice when your energy feels stagnant and have the knowledge to take steps to change it with the tools that you learn. You will have much more understanding of who you are as a more integrated person and find purpose, clarity, happiness, joy, and healing. These transformational practices will remain with you for life. 

 
 

IN JOURNEY OF SELF-AWARENESS, YOU WILL RECEIVE:

  1. Eight two-hour classes that include a yoga practice, journal reflections, and discussion – all with a group of like-minded individuals
  2. A Journal 
  3. Chakra Journaling Prompts that explore each chakra, stimulating insights and  self-awareness
  4. Informative handouts about each chakra, including—
  • Development of chakras
  • Issues around each chakra
  • Symptoms of chakra excesses and deficiencies
  • Manifestations of illnesses
  • A sequence of yoga poses for each chakra to practice at home
  1. A Sun Salutation sequence for each chakra
  2. Suggested supplemental reading list
  3. Optional Homework: Suggested activities to support each chakra that you may choose to engage in at home to deepen your understanding of yourself 
  4. Support for your journey through the duration of the course via email or phone communication

WHAT DOES A CLASS LOOK LIKE?

Each class will begin with breathwork and an introduction to the chakra followed by a prompt specific to you for you to reflect upon and journal about throughout the yoga practice. Seventy minutes of yoga asana practice with a personal intention and a focus on poses to strengthen or pacify the chakra, which will mobilize energy that has become ”stuck.” The class will end with a meditation and time to journal about any insights, the prompt, or “aha’s.” Then there will be time to share (or merely listen) in a closing circle. 

 

The structure may vary depending on the size of the class, the needs of participants and whether it is held online or live and local.
