Fall in Love with Ayurveda

These five reasons and so much more about the wisdom of Ayurveda motivate me to bring harmony into my life and live an Ayurvedic lifestyle!

1. IT’S TIMELESS

Ayurveda is a system of preventative healthcare developed more than 5,000 years ago in ancient India. Translated into English, Ayurveda means “the science or wisdom of life.” The principles for restoring and maintaining mind-body balance are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago.

2. IT’S HOLISTIC

This healthcare system treats the whole person (body, mind, and spirit) – not just the symptoms of an illness. It gets to the root cause of the disease, or imbalance, that is manifesting in the body or mind. Ayurveda says that our bodies are in a dynamic exchange of energy and information and that our lives are also continuously exchanging energy and information with the environment, our extended body. The definition of health according to Ayurveda Health is a state of vibrant balance in which all the layers of one’s life are integrated.; not merely the absence of disease.

3. IT’S ABOUT FINDING BALANCE IN OUR BODY-MIND

With Ayurveda, our own inner intelligence brings our body-mind back into balance. Through Ayurvedic knowledge we learn to pay attention to the signals that our body is giving us. This wisdom guides us to make nourishing conscious choices. Natural practices and tools used on a daily basis help to bring our body-mind back into balance.

4. AYURVEDA CONSIDERS OUR INHERENT CONNECTION TO NATURE

The same intelligence that flows through nature governs every cell in our body. Everything, including us, consists of the five master elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth. These five elements combine into three mind-body principles (doshas): Vata (movement), Pitta (transformation), and Kapha (protection). This knowledge helps us to maintain balance in our constitution.

Ayurveda teaches us to use the rhythms of nature – the seasonal, circadian, lunar and tidal cycles of the earth – to structure our lives around rather than swimming against the natural currents surrounding us.

5. IT EXPLAINS OUR UNIQUE BEHAVIORS AND THOSE OF OTHERS

The qualities of the doshas accurately explain our unique tendencies and those of others. Each person has a unique combination of the five elements; thus, we each react differently to life experiences. We can look at the qualities of the elements to understand why we are the way we are – and why others are the way they are.
